Rancho Alegre Interviews – Genaro Aguilar de Los Aguilares

Long known for their popurris, Los Aguilares have enjoyed great success over their 50 year career in music. With brothers Genaro on vocals and bass, and Emilio on accordion, the group became a fan favorite and, like other hard-working conjuntos, toured extensively around Texas and the rest of the country.

After Emilio’s passing a couple of years ago, the band is still going strong and continuing the family musical tradition. They have also established the Emilio Aguilar Alzheimer’s Foundation in his honor to support families of Alzheimer’s patients in the San Antonio/Bexar County and to help research this disease.

We caught up with Genaro at Janie’s Record Shop in San Antonio, and had a great time getting to know the man behind the beautiful voice.
